About the Valley Hackathon

Mission

The mission of the Valley Hackathon is foster and grow a community of technical enthusiasts while raising awareness about the Central Valley’s tech ecosystem by hosting events that encourage people to push the bounds of technical innovation.

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon... is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development... collaborate intensively on software projects.  Occasionally, there is a hardware component as well. Hackathons typically last between a day and a week. Some hackathons are intended simply for educational or social purposes, although in many cases the goal is to create usable software.   --Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackathon

What We Do

The Valley Hackathon organizes three types of events: major hackathons (24 hour), mini hackathons (10 hour), and collaborative hackathons (48 hour).  We ran one major, two mini and one collaborative hackathon in 2018.  Our events are always free for the participants and planned to be fun and competitive for the community.  Our hackathons can be open (bring your own project) or themed events.  Themed events will be listed as such and will have a focus on a specific project or data set.  At all of our events, food will be provided, at our major hackathons we may also run side events and have special surprises.  Our focus is heavily on the community while not ignoring local industries.
